Spitalfields Music is now in its third year of Creative Encounters, working with older people and staff in local care homes to transform their experiences and environment.
A team of artists deliver creative sessions with residents, including those living with dementia, staff and local community members, focusing on making art spontaneously, in a way that encourages new relationships to be forged. Rather than focusing on reminiscence, memory or the past, the project and approaches are about creativity in the here and now.
Creative Encounters explores the ways that older people can develop as creative individuals to improve not only their own wellbeing, but also that of those around them. During the current crisis Spitalfields Music are exploring extending the work remotely to include digital and physical messages of care and kindness.
